College Basketball Head Coach Shockingly Announces Firing In Postgame Press Conference

Utah State fired women's basketball head coach Kayla Ard on Sunday night after the Aggies lost to Boise State in the first round of the Mountain West tournament.

Ard made the shocking announcement during her postgame press conference. When asked how she planned to rebuild next season, Ard informed the media that she had been fired before the press conference.

"I'm not going to be rebuilding," Ard said. "I just coached my last game at Utah State. I spoke with Diana (Sabau), and they're going in a different direction, and I respect her decision and I hope they get a really good coach in. I'm assuming that's going to be the last question."

Ard was 22-79 over four seasons with the Aggies and only won 10 games once in her tenure as head coach. The Aggies won 11 games in 2021-22 under Ard but lost multiple key contributors to the transfer portal ahead of the 2022-23 season.
