10 CFB Picks Against the Spread for Week 9

Michigan State (+23.5) over Michigan

All signs point to a big Michigan win, but I have a feeling that Mark Dantonio will have his team ready to play. The Spartans won’t win, but they will keep it interesting long enough to cover the spread.

West Virginia (-3.5) over Oklahoma State

The Mountaineers have been getting attention for their outstanding work on defense en route to their 6–0 start, but it’s worth noting that WVU has scored at least 34 points in four games, including 48 at Texas Tech and 34 vs. TCU.

Iowa State (+6.5) over Kansas State

The Cyclones return home for the first time since they let a 14-point lead slip away in the fourth quarter of a loss to Baylor. Matt Campbell’s team is ready to break through and win (not just cover) for the first time in Big 12 play.

Northwestern (+27) over Ohio State

This number seems to be a big high. Northwestern is playing well of late, with road wins at Iowa and Michigan State and a home win over Indiana. Ohio State is the better team, but the Buckeyes haven’t been at their best in recent weeks.

Washington (-10) over Utah

Recommended Articles

Washington leads the Pac-12 in yards per play (7.5) and is tied for the league lead in yards per play allowed (4.6). The Huskies have won all but one game by 34 points. Utah is good. Washington is better.

Baylor (-3) over Texas

It’s been out of sight out of mind for a Baylor team that has played one game (vs. Kansas) since Oct. 1. The Bears will be back in the news this week — for winning at Texas for the second straight time.

Georgia (+7.5) over Florida

Florida is the better team, but strange things happen in this annual showdown in Jacksonville. The Bulldogs need to get their running game going.

Notre Dame (-2.5) over Miami

The Irish are a home dog to a Miami team whose best win is at Georgia Tech. It’s tough to get excited about either team. Take Notre Dame at home.

Nebraska (+8.5) over Wisconsin

This is by far the biggest test of the season for Nebraska, which has navigated its first seven games without a loss. Wisconsin gutted out a win at Iowa after losing back-to-back games to Big Ten bullies Michigan and Ohio State. Don’t be surprised if the Badgers suffer a bit of a letdown.

Florida State (+4.5) over Clemson

Florida State is a home dog for the first time since September 2011, when Oklahoma won (and covered) in Tallahassee as a 3.5-point favorite. History will not repeat itself.
