Even after seeing 10 players drafted this year, defending champion Alabama has plenty of NFL-caliber talents on the roster
The 2021 NFL Draft looked a little more like everyone is used to seeing with fans and some of the top prospects on-site in Cleveland. And while it was a welcome sight and fans and analysts alike continue to break down each team's draft class, some of the attention has already shifted to next year's draft.
Some of that may be due to the fact that Las Vegas is set to host next year after the 2020 plans had to be scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the draft always comes down to one aspect — the prospects.
After tying for the most players selected this year with 10 each, Alabama and Ohio State are neck-and-neck for the most on Athlon Sports' list of the top 50 prospects for the 2022 NFL Draft with five each. The SEC overall leads the way with 19 in the top 50 meaning there's still plenty of NFL-caliber talent remaining even after the conference broke its own record with 65 players taken in the just-completed draft.
But if this list holds up, it will be the ACC, not the SEC that will claim the No. 1 overall pick in back-to-back years with North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell Athlon's early pick to follow in Trevor Lawrence's footsteps. That doesn't mean it's guaranteed to happen (just look at last year's list), but you got to start somewhere, right?
