With the 12th weekend of the 2018 season in the books for the ACC, it’s time to take a look at the best of the best and honor some of the top performances. Each week, Athlon Sports will highlight some of the top performers in college football with its weekly awards section. Here’s a look at Athlon Sports’ picks for the ACC's offensive, defensive, coordinator, team and freshman from Week 12.
ACC Week 12 College Football Awards
Offensive Player of the Week: Kenny Pickett, QB, Pitt
Pickett connected on 23 of 30 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns in Pitt’s 34-13 victory over Wake Forest.
Defensive Player of the Week: Clelin Ferrell, DE, Clemson
Ferrell recorded five tackles (2.5 for a loss), one pass breakup and two sacks in Clemson’s win over Duke.
Coordinator of the Week (Offense): Eliah Drinkwitz, NC State
NC State’s offense accumulated 518 total yards (6.6 per play) and 52 points in Saturday’s win over Louisville. Drinkwitz’s group recorded 354 yards through the air and 164 on the ground. Additionally, the Wolfpack went 10 of 14 on third-down conversions and had only one three-and-out.
Coordinator of the Week (Defense): Manny Diaz, Miami
Miami’s defense came up big in the second half of Saturday’s win over Virginia Tech. The Hurricanes did not allow a point over the final two quarters and limited the Hokies to just 14 overall points and 335 yards. Miami’s defense held Virginia Tech to just two third-down conversions on 12 attempts, forced three turnovers and generated 11 tackles for a loss.
Team of the Week: Pitt
For the first time in program history, Pitt is headed to the ACC Championship Game. The Panthers clinched the Coastal Division by defeating Wake Forest 34-13 on Saturday. Coach Pat Narduzzi’s defense held the Demon Deacons to just 285 yards, while Pitt’s offense generated 470, including 316 through the air from quarterback Kenny Pickett.
Freshman of the Week (Offense): Tamorrion Terry, WR, Florida State
Terry caught three passes for 112 yards and one touchdown in Florida State’s win over Boston College. Terry’s 74-yard catch with less than two minutes to go lifted the Seminoles to the win.
Freshman of the Week (Defense): Andre Cisco, S, Syracuse
Cisco collected nine tackles (one for a loss), one pass breakup and an interception in Syracuse’s loss to Notre Dame.
