With the seventh weekend of the 2018 season in the books for the ACC, it’s time to take a look at the best of the best and honor some of the top performances. Each week, Athlon Sports will highlight some of the top performers in college football with its weekly awards section. ACC Week 7 College Football Awards
Offensive Player of the Week: Daniel Jones, QB, Duke
Jones completed 17 of 27 throws for 206 yards and three touchdowns in Duke’s win over Georgia Tech.
Defensive Player of the Week: Juan Thornhill, DB, Virginia
Thornhill recorded six tackles and interception two passes (with 86 return yards) in Saturday’s win over Miami.
Coordinator(s) of the Week (Defense): Matt Guerrieri and Ben Albert, Duke

Guerrieri and Albert share the defensive coordinator, and this duo had Duke’s defense prepared to stop Georgia Tech’s option attack. The Blue Devils limited the Yellow Jackets to 229 yards (3.8 per carry), forced three turnovers and generated 11 tackles for a loss.
Team of the Week: Virginia
The Cavaliers improved to 4-2 by beating Miami in a 16-13 upset on Saturday night. Virginia’s defense forced three turnovers, with the offense converting two of those into 10 points. The Cavaliers managed 231 yards in a timely night for the offense, with Jordan Ellis and Bryce Perkins leading the way for the unit to average 3.4 yards per rush on 41 attempts.
Freshman of the Week (Offense): David Bailey, RB, Boston College
Bailey helped to fill in at running back with AJ Dillon sidelined in Saturday’s win over Louisville. The freshman recorded 112 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries.
Freshman of the Week (Defense): Chris Rumph, LB, Duke
Rumph recorded seven tackles (four for a loss) and a sack in Duke’s win over Georgia Tech.
