ACC Week 8 College Football Awards

Athlon hands out the awards from the Week 8 action in the ACC.

Week 8 of the 2017 college football season produced several big performances and memorable moments from the ACC. The Week 8 action started with Louisville's win over Florida State in Tallahassee, along with Pitt's road victory against Duke. Boston College upset Virginia, and coach Steve Addazio's team is starting to move into bowl contention with a 4-4 mark after eight weeks. Miami knocked off Syracuse to remain unbeaten, with Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech also recording key ACC victories.

With the eighth weekend of 2017 in the books, it’s time to take a look at the best of the best and honor some of the top performances from the ACC. Here’s a look at Athlon Sports’ picks for the offensive, defensive, coordinator, team, freshman and unsung hero from Week 8:

ACC Week 8 College Football Awards

Offensive Player of the Week: Malik Rosier, QB, Miami

Rosier ensured Miami remained unbeaten with a huge performance against Syracuse. The junior completed 26 of 43 passes for 344 yards and two touchdowns and added 45 rushing yards on nine carries.

Defensive Player of the Week: Michael Pinckney, LB, Miami

Pinckney was all over in the field in Miami’s win over Syracuse. The sophomore led the team with nine tackles (six solo and 3.5 for a loss) and also recorded 2.5 sacks.

Coordinator of the Week (Defense): Bud Foster, Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech’s defense turned in another dominant effort in Saturday’s win over North Carolina. The Hokies scored on a fumble return by lineman Ricky Walker, and safety Reggie Floyd returned an interception 69 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Foster’s defense limited North Carolina to just 172 yards (2.7 ypp), forced three turnovers and recorded 13 tackles for a loss and six sacks. Outside of a 70-yard drive in the third quarter, no North Carolina possession extended longer than 50 yards.

Freshman of the Week (Offense): Anthony Brown, QB, Boston College

This is the second week in a row a player from Boston College has claimed freshman of the week honors on offense. Brown completed 19 of 24 throws for 275 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 32 yards in Saturday’s 41-10 victory over Virginia.

Freshman of the Week (Defense): Dorian Etheridge, LB, Louisville

Etheridge recorded five tackles in Saturday’s win in Tallahassee over Florida State.

Team of the Week: Miami

The Hurricanes remained unbeaten thanks to a 27-19 victory over Syracuse. Unlike the last two games, Miami didn’t require some last-minute heroics on offense to win. Instead, the defense made a key stop with just under two minutes remaining to seal the victory and move the Hurricanes to 6-0. The offense recorded 480 yards, while the defense limited Syracuse to 4.3 yards per play and forced four turnovers.

Unsung Hero of the Week: Darrin Hall, RB, Pitt

Hall entered Saturday’s game against Duke with just 108 rushing yards in 2017. The junior exceeded that total against the Blue Devils, gashing the defense for 254 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries.
