Texas A&M Football: 5 Newcomers to Watch for the Aggies

Texas A&M Football.

This Monday morning, the official 2022 preseason coaches' poll released. Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson and Notre Dame round out the top five.

After that it gets a bit dicey. Texas A&M is No. 7, although the Aggies are really an unknown entering the 2022 season.

Per college sports editor Erick White, Texas A&M is one of the five "most overrated" teams in college football in 2022.

The Aggies are joined by USC, Texas, Cincinnati and Pitt.

"Every time Lucy pulls the football away from Charlie Brown, there is always the glimmer of hope that one day he will kick the ball. Such is the case with predictions for the Aggies," said White, via USA Today. "This is still a program – despite all its fanfare - that has only twice finished with fewer than four losses this century and has only been ranked at the end of six seasons during the same span. Optimism that “this” is the year A&M breaks through and contends for the SEC title is built on some fantastic recruiting classes that Jimbo Fisher put together. However, it’s play on the field that matters and until expectations meet reality there are going to be doubters. The biggest question mark is at quarterback where only LSU transfer Max Johnson has significant experience. There’s talent on the line of scrimmage, but it is young and how the grind of the SEC impacts those groups is unknown. The Aggies will be good. But being top-10 good seems a stretch given their difficult schedule and still green group of talented underclassmen."

The one big difference about Texas A&M this season is its incoming recruiting class, which is best in the nation. It's unlikely those freshmen can lead the Aggies to an SEC title, but it's tough not to get excited.

Another team fans may be weary of is USC. The Trojans' offense will be explosive, as it has been for the past decade or so. But the rushing attack and entire defense are major concerns.
