Baker Mayfield Sends Serious Message To College Football After Ohio State-Michigan Brawl

Week 14 of the college football season had a lot going on. There were rivalry games, matchups that altered the conference title race, and then a few different flag-planting incidents.

The biggest of them all was Michigan planting a flag on Ohio State's field after a massive upset in Columbus.

The Wolverines got the 13-10 win, which knocked Ohio State out of the Big Ten title game and left Ryan Day winless in his last four appearances in The Game.

The flag-planting ignited an all-out brawl that even included pepper spray from Ohio State and Michigan police.

While flag-planting is becoming more common, former Oklahoma star Baker Mayfield is considered the trailblazer by many after he planted the flag on Ohio State's field after the Sooners' win in 2017.

On Sunday, Mayfield's Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Carolina Panthers in a close NFC South showdown.

After the win, Mayfield was asked about all the flag-planting that took place in Week 14, and he was asked about the "pushback" to the flag-planting. While the question wasn't specifically about Ohio State-Michigan, the "pushback" from that incident has been the talk of college football all weekend long.

"OU-Texas does it every time they play," Mayfield said. "It's not anything special. Take your L and you move on. I'll leave it at that."

Mayfield was then asked another question: "Will it be a mistake for the NCAA to outlaw that?"

Mayfield's response was simple: "College football is meant to have rivalries. That's like the Big 12 banning the 'horns down' signal. Just let the boys play."

On Sunday, it was reported that the Big Ten is expected to fine each program $100,000 for the incidents.

However, there could be some changes from the NCAA in the offseason regarding rules to prevent that from happening in the first place.

At the end of the day, Mayfield isn't bothered by any of it and insists that college football should have rivalries.
