Breaking: Five-Star Alabama Running Back Enters Transfer Portal

Alabama RB Trey Sanders

According to a 247Sports report released Tuesday, one veteran member of the Alabama Crimson Tide will seek out greener pastures.

Third-year running back Trey Sanders has entered the transfer protocol, per Chris Hummer.

As evidenced by the response to this news, there will be no shortage of programs vying for Sanders' services. At 23 years old, and with three years of college ball already under his belt, Trey doesn't possess the youth and raw upside of others sought after by recruiters. But the Florida native was a former five-star recruit, and those accolades don't go away easily.

While the story of Sanders' career has yet to fully be told, one has to wonder what his collegiate run would have looked like if he was able to stay on the field.

Prior to 2019, in what was meant to be his rookie season, Sanders broke his foot, sidelining him for the year. In the following season, the hard-luck Sanders was involved in a car accident that further curtailed his playing time.

So, due to circumstances beyond his control, Sanders has rushed for merely three touchdowns throughout his time with the Crimson Tide. But this can all turn around with improved luck and a change of scenery. Though he reportedly won't be suiting up for Nick Saban in the future, one would think the heralded college coach will pull for Sanders' success.
