The Beehive State is overjoyed as BYU and the University of Utah have agreed to a home-and-home series for 2017 and 2018. Under the new contract, the Cougars will play in Provo on Sept. 9, 2017 and in Salt Lake City on Nov. 24, 2018. BYU and Utah will now play the Deseret First Duel four times in the next six years — 2013, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
It was previously announced BYU and Utah would not play in 2014 or 2015, ending a 67-year straight "Holy War" matchup. While games were scheduled for 2013 and 2016, the future of this tense rivalry was up in the air, as conference realignment has complicated things for the two schools. Since BYU officially began playing football in 1922, the Cougars and Utes have played 88 times. Utah holds the overall series record of 53-31-4.
