Clemson vs. LSU: Best Prop Bets for National Championship

It's time for the final game of the college football season as No. 1 LSU takes on No. 3 Clemson in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on Monday. Depending on where you look, LSU is either a 5.5- or six-point favorite with a total around 69. There will be a lot of props out there for your consumption should you not want to bet on the spread or total. This will be good practice for the Super Bowl, which will feature thousands of potential wagers.

Before you even take a look at a single prop, I think you need to sit down and envision how the game is going to go. If you believe that this is going to go over the total, then you'll probably jump on a lot of the QB props because you see a lot of points. If you think that this will be a lower-scoring game, then you'll be looking at some unders, which I think you'll get value on. All that said, I think the betting public on Monday will pound the over on a ton of props so if you wait, you may get some plus prices on the under.

Let's take a look at some of the props where I think there could be some value. I'll put the online sportsbook in parenthesis:

First team to score: Clemson +115 (Bovada)

To me, this is an incredible value for a team that very easily could take the ball on the first drive and get points. I know LSU's offense is so good and their defense is getting healthy, but to me, if you are looking to make money from this game, you have to consider the underdog to score first, especially at a plus price.

First score of the game: LSU TD +135 OR Clemson TD +170 (Bovada)

I know above I said to consider Clemson to score first, but with these two prices at plus, I'd consider taking the team you think will win here. If you notice the props that I'm bringing up, there's a lot of plus prices. I really don't see either team settling for too many FGs and if they do, it's no guarantee that they will be made.

Will the team that scores first win the game? No +150 (Bovada)

Another bet that I think there's value with the plus price because there's no guarantee that scoring first will get you the win.

Touchdown Scorer Any Time: Justyn Ross (EVEN), Terrace Marshall Jr. (+110) (FanDuel Sportsbook)

If you notice on the list, all of the stars of this game are heavily favored to score and present no value. These two wide receivers have found the end zone multiple times and could do so on Monday as well. Ross has had three touchdowns in his last five games. Marshall's been hot as of late with four touchdowns between the Oklahoma and Georgia contests. His problem is that there are tilts where he's not busy at all. (BTW, if you don't think Ross is going to score, you can get EVEN money on 5Dimes)

To Score 2+ Touchdowns: Travis Etienne +200 (FanDuel Sportsbook)

I'm leaning towards Clemson winning this game and I think the Tigers from the ACC are going to have to find ways to get Etienne into open space. He had 134 yards of total offense against Ohio State and three touchdowns. The running back has had multiple touchdowns four times this season and I think he's someone that will be a huge part of the game plan.

If you think Clemson is going to win, then you should go to Betonline.Ag where they have a prop of Trevor Lawrence throwing two-plus TDs and the Tigers win for +202. There are similar wagers involving LSU as well.

The bottom line is that you have to decide how the game is going to go before you look at anything. Depending on which team you see winning and how, those are the props you should take.
