The midway point of the college football season seems to be taking things a step down in intrigue in Week 7, but don't go sleeping on this weekend's schedule just yet. Some large point spreads in notable games could be worth paying close attention to as a number of games could end up catching you off guard with how close they actually are. And those large point spreads could come to our rescue in picks against the spread this weekend.
After a couple of bad breaks last week, our season record dropped to .500. So let's get a solid rebound and start trending back in the right direction this week. To do that, we'll go with some reliable options that have been good to us more often than not.
Note: All times are ET and all games are on Saturday, Oct. 16.
No. 20 Florida (-11.5) at LSU, 12 p.m.
This is not typically a game that would qualify as a safe bet given the rivalry aspect between these two programs and LSU not being the easiest place to get a win for most programs. But Dan Mullen's offensive game plan should exploit injury issues in LSU's secondary, and a sour season will continue for the Tigers. Florida 36, LSU 23
UCF (+21) at No. 3 Cincinnati, 12 p.m.
Nobody appears ready to give Cincinnati a stiff challenge for the remainder of the regular season except for SMU. UCF being banged up doesn't help the cause for a game that could have been a massive showdown in the AAC this season. But are we overlooking UCF's chances to keep things within three touchdowns? Cincinnati won't be in much trouble against the Knights, but it could be closer than three touchdowns. Cincinnati 30, UCF 17
No. 11 Kentucky (+23.0) at No. 1 Georgia, 3:30 p.m.
Georgia is not going to lose to Will Levis and Kentucky, but all we are looking for is for the Wildcats to slow things down enough to manufacture a couple of scoring drives to keep things within 23 points. Kentucky has what it takes to not get the doors blown off of them, even in Athens. Georgia 34, Kentucky 13
No. 19 BYU (+6.5) at Baylor, 3:30 p.m.
BYU had its highest hopes and dreams shattered last week with a tough home loss to Boise State, but don't expect the Cougars to pack it in for the year. They are faced with a tough road trip to Baylor but could very well leave Waco with a win. They won't, but it will go down to the wire at least. Baylor 34, BYU 28
No. 5 Alabama (-17) at Mississippi State, 7 p.m.
The Crimson Tide are coming off their first loss of the season, and it was one that rocked the college football world. So naturally, you can expect Nick Saban to light a fire under his team and take out their frustrations on Mississippi State. It could be a long night for the Bulldogs. Alabama 53, Mississippi State 24
