Jim Harbaugh's Michigan Wolverines have a large spread to cover in their annual grudge match with Michigan State
Whether it is Week 9 or Week 2 or anywhere between, college football has a fun assortment of games to dig into this week on the board. In its second week of the season, the Big Ten finds its way into this week's picks not once, but twice! Ohio State and Penn State clash in Happy Valley in what was previously hyped as the potential game of the year in the conference, but the Michigan Wolverines made a bit of a statement last week that has caught our attention this week after we dared go against Jim Harbaugh and company.
Will we make the same mistake twice? Given the overall record this season, we hopefully have learned our lesson and are ready for a clean slate this weekend!
Note: All times are ET and games are on Saturday, Oct. 31.
Michigan (-25) vs. Michigan State, 12 p.m.
It took a while, but Jim Harbaugh may finally have his quarterback in Joe Milton. The Wolverines put together a full team victory in a bit of a statement at Minnesota to open up Big Ten play, and now play their first game in silent Michigan Stadium against a Michigan State team that was nothing short of abysmal against Rutgers. This one could get ugly in a hurry. Michigan 42, Michigan State 13
It is still unknown what the status of Coastal Carolina quarterback Grayson McCall will be for this weekend, but Coastal Carolina has been too good to slip up now. The Chanticleers find a way past Georgia State to keep their New Year's Six bowl hopes alive for another week. Coastal Carolina 30, Georgia State 26
Ole Miss (-18) at Vanderbilt, 4 p.m.
While Lane Kiffin searches for enough pennies to pay off a fine to the SEC headquarters, the Rebels will be busy continuing to move the football up and down the field. Ole Miss is still searching for a defense (maybe check between the couch cushions while searching for those pennies) but that won't hurt them against Vanderbilt. Ole Miss in a laugher. Ole Miss 48, Vanderbilt 27
Penn State (+11.5) vs. Ohio State, 7:30 p.m.
After a tough overtime loss last week, expect Penn State to clean up a few things that went wrong and bring a much better all-around effort this week. They'll need it, because Ohio State is the real deal. The Buckeyes are still a pretty easy pick to take the win, but the Nittany Lions have a knack for keeping things tight when this series is played at home. No whiteout crowd hurts Penn State, but so will Ohio State's defensive line. Ohio State 30, Penn State 20
BYU (-29.0) vs. Western Kentucky, 10:15 p.m.
You'll have to wait a little later to see if this week's final pick is a good one or not, but BYU has been stomping opponents left and right this season. And that doesn't look like it's a trend about to burst this weekend. The Hilltoppers managed just 13 points against FCS member Chattanooga. They'll need way more than that to keep it close vs. Zach Wilson and the Cougars. BYU 59, Western Kentucky 17
