College Football Rankings: NCAAF Top 25 (After Week 13)

Weekly college football top 25 rankings are a big part of every season, and Athlon Sports will update its top 25 following the games each weekend. The 13th weekend of the 2021 season was headlined by Michigan's victory over Ohio State, Oklahoma State beating rival Oklahoma and Alabama's comeback win against Auburn. Georgia, Michigan, Alabama and Cincinnati take the top four spots, with Notre Dame at No. 5 and Oklahoma State at No. 6 in the post-Week 13 top 25 rankings. With the 13th week of the 2021 season officially in the books, here are the top 25 teams in college football:

College Football Top 25 Rankings (After Week 13)

1. Georgia (12-0)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Georgia Tech

Clean, old-fashioned hate was another one-sided affair. The Bulldogs soundly beat the Yellow Jackets 45-0 to move to 12-0 this year. Georgia has defeated Georgia Tech by a combined score of 142-28 in the last three meetings.

2. Michigan (11-1)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Ohio State

The Game delivered another classic, but the outcome was different this time, as coach Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines breakthrough with a win over Ohio State. Michigan was better in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and the defense did just enough to slow down the Buckeyes’ high-powered offense. The Wolverines will play Iowa for the Big Ten title next Saturday.

3. Alabama (11-1)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Auburn

The Iron Bowl delivered another thriller, and the overtime win over Auburn keeps Alabama's playoff hopes alive for another week. Quarterback Bryce Young and receiver John Metchie III connected on a couple of clutch plays down the stretch, and the defense came up with key stops to lift the Crimson Tide to a 24-22 victory in overtime.

4. Cincinnati (12-0)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated East Carolina

Cincinnati’s defense and big plays in the passing game by quarterback Desmond Ridder ensured the perfect season wouldn’t end with an East Carolina upset. 

5. Notre Dame (11-1)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Stanford

The Fighting Irish ended their regular season on a high note with a dominant 45-14 victory over Stanford. Notre Dame defeated its last four opponents by a combined score of 162-23.

6. Oklahoma State (11-1)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Oklahoma

Bedlam! After a crazy back-and-forth first half, Mike Gundy’s defense stepped up over the final two quarters, which included a clutch stop on the last drive to seal a victory over rival Oklahoma. A win over Baylor in the Big 12 title game could put the Cowboys in the CFB Playoff.

7. Ohio State (10-2)
Week 13 Result:
Lost to Michigan

The Buckeyes were simply not good enough on defense or in the trenches in Saturday’s 42-27 loss to Michigan. The defeat was Ryan Day’s first in a Big Ten game since taking over the program in 2019.

8. Ole Miss (10-2)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Mississippi State

A couple of timely defensive stops and the steady play of quarterback Matt Corral lifted Ole Miss to a 31-21 over rival Mississippi State to keep the Golden Egg in Oxford.

9. Baylor (10-2)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Texas Tech

Backup quarterback Blake Shapen kept the offense on track (434 yards) in a close 27-24 win over Texas Tech on Saturday. The victory over the Red Raiders, combined with Oklahoma State’s win against Oklahoma, moved coach Dave Aranda’s team into the Big 12 title game next Saturday.

10. Oregon (10-2)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Oregon State

A week after struggling in the trenches against Utah, the Ducks dominated the line of scrimmage in Saturday’s 38-29 win over Oregon State. Coach Mario Cristobal’s team limited the Beavers to 85 rushing yards, while Oregon churned out 231 yards on the ground to help the offense to an average of 7.3 yards per play.

11. Michigan State (10-2)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Penn State

The Spartans shook off last week’s loss to Ohio State to win a snow-covered 30-27 matchup against Penn State. The victory over the Nittany Lions should earn coach Mel Tucker’s team a New Year’s Six bowl. 

12. Oklahoma (10-2)
Week 13 Result:
Lost to Oklahoma State

The Sooners’ hopes of a trip to the Big 12 title game and another conference championship ended on Saturday night with a 37-33 loss to Oklahoma State. After averaging 6.4 yards per play in the first half, Oklahoma managed only 4.3 per snap and did not score a point on offense in the final two quarters.

13. BYU (10-2)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated USC

The Cougars closed out the regular season with a 35-31 win at USC on Saturday night. BYU went 5-0 against the Pac-12 in 2021.

14. Utah (9-3)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Colorado

The Utes were a little sloppy at times and have a few things to clean up on special teams, but coach Kyle Whittingham’s team defeated Colorado to post its the third consecutive full season of at least nine victories in a row.

16. Pitt (10-2)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Syracuse

Kenny Pickett threw four touchdown passes to guide Pitt to a 31-14 win over Syracuse. The victory ensures the Panthers reach double-digit wins for the first time since 2009.

17. Wake Forest (10-2)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Boston College

The Demon Deacons turned in a dominant performance to beat Boston College 41-10 with the Atlantic Division title on the line. Wake Forest is headed back to the ACC title game for the first time since 2006.

18. Houston (11-1)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated UConn

The Cougars crushed UConn 45-17 to earn win No. 11 this year. Up next: A major showdown against Cincinnati in the AAC title game next Saturday.

19. San Diego State (11-1)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Boise State

A quarterback change and a standout defensive effort in the second half helped the Aztecs knock off Boise State 27-16. The win over the Broncos clinched a trip to the Mountain West title game for coach Brady Hoke’s squad.

20. Arkansas (8-4)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated Missouri

The Razorbacks added to the 2021 hardware haul by claiming the Battle Line Trophy in a 34-17 victory over Missouri on Friday.

21. NC State (9-3)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated NC State

The Wolfpack scored 13 points in the game’s final 1:35 to rally for a 34-30 win over North Carolina on Friday night. If NC State wins its bowl, coach Dave Doeren’s team will win double-digit games for the first time since 2002.

22. Clemson (9-3)
Week 13 Result:
Defeated South Carolina

The Tigers pummeled South Carolina for 265 yards on the ground, while the defense allowed only 206 yards in a dominant 30-0 victory. Clemson has won seven in a row over the Gamecocks.

23. Minnesota (8-4)
Week 13 Result
: Defeated Wisconsin

Golden Gophers played spoiler against rival Wisconsin, using a 23-13 win to prevent the Badgers from claiming the Big Ten West Division title. 

24. Wisconsin (8-4)
Week 13 Result:
Lost to Minnesota

The Badgers watched their seven-game winning streak come to an end at the worst possible time. Coach Paul Chryst’s offense was limited to just 62 yards on the ground and averaged 3.9 yards per play in Saturday’s 23-13 loss to Minnesota. The loss to the Golden Gophers handed the Big Ten West Division to Iowa.

25. Texas A&M (8-4)
Week 13 Result:
Lost to LSU

The Aggies suffered a disappointing 27-24 defeat to LSU on Saturday night. Texas A&M was outgained 412 to 296 and gave up a nine-play, 86-yard drive with less than two minutes left to drop to 8-4.
