Ranking the top 25 teams in college football after Week 9

Weekly college football top 25 rankings are a big part of every season, and Athlon Sports will update its top 25 following the games each weekend. The ninth weekend of the 2018 season was headlined by Georgia's win over Florida in Jacksonville, Kentucky's comeback victory over Missouri and upsets by Oklahoma State (Texas), Arizona (Oregon) and California (Washington). Alabama was off in Week 9 and remains the clear No. 1 team going into Week 10. Clemson checks in at No. 2 after beating Florida State, while Notre Dame remains No. 3 after defeating Navy in San Diego. The top 25 has a handful of new teams this week, including Houston, Fresno State and Utah State. With the ninth week of the 2018 season officially in the books, here are the top 25 teams in college football:

1. Alabama (8-0)

Week 9 Result: Bye Week


Alabama’s biggest test of the 2018 season takes place next Saturday in Baton Rouge against LSU.


2. Clemson (8-0)

Week 9 Result: Defeated Florida State


Clemson has won its last three games by a combined score of 163-20.


3. Notre Dame (8-0)

Week 9 Result: Defeated Navy


Navy’s defense had no answers for Notre Dame’s one-two punch of Ian Book (QB) and Dexter Williams (RB).


4. Michigan (7-1)

Week 9 Result: Bye Week


If Michigan beats Penn State next Saturday, the Wolverines should be 10-1 going into the finale at Ohio State.
