Former Highly Touted Big 12 Quarterback Enters College Football Transfer Portal

The college football transfer portal season is already in full swing, with several intriguing quarterbacks searching for new homes.

Former Florida Gators quarterback Max Brown is one quarterback entering the transfer portal after an unsuccessful stint with the Charlotte 49ers, and he is joined by one Big 12 freshman who was once highly touted.

EJ Colson announced his decision to enter the portal in a social media statement, saying that he believes a change is "necessary for my future," amid uncertainty within the program. Colson was initially part of the 2025 recruiting class before reclassifying to join the UCF Knights in 2024.

UCF is also in danger of a sizable exodus with Gus Malzahn stepping down as the team's head coach. Several UCF players and recruits announced their intention to find a new college football team as the Knights began searching for a head coach.

Former UCF quarterback EJ Colson (12) warms up before the game against the Cincinnati Bearcats

Colson was 17 years old when he made his first college football start for the Knights versus the Cincinnati Bearcats on Oct. 12, and was one of four quarterbacks to start for UCF this season, but he only played in two games.

The former Cedar Grove High School quarterback from Ellenwood, Ga. was ESPN's No. 11 ranked dual-threat quarterback in the 2024 class and also received offers from the Arkansas Razorbacks, Nebraska Cornhuskers and Virginia Tech Hokies among other programs.

With all four years of eligibility remaining, Colson is sure to have plenty of suitors in the transfer portal.
