With the 13th weekend of the 2018 season in the books, it’s time to take a look at the best of the best and honor some of the top performances. Each week, Athlon Sports will highlight some of the top performers in college football with its weekly awards section. Here’s a look at Athlon Sports’ picks for the offensive, defensive, coordinator, team and freshman from Week 13:
College Football Week 13 Awards
Offensive Player of the Week: Dwayne Haskins, QB, Ohio State
Haskins completed 20 of 31 passes for 396 yards and six touchdowns and added 34 rushing yards on seven carries in Ohio State’s win over Michigan.
Defensive Player of the Week: Chase Hansen, LB, Utah
Hansen led the way for a Utah defense that held BYU scoreless in the fourth quarter, allowing the Utes to stage a 35-27 comeback victory. Hansen ended the game with 13 tackles (three for a loss) and one pass breakup.
Coordinator of the Week (Offense): Mike Locksley, Alabama
Alabama’s offense recorded 500 yards (8.0 per play) and 52 points in Saturday’s Iron Bowl win over Auburn. The Crimson Tide also scored on five of their final seven drives and averaged 14.5 yards a completion.
Coordinator of the Week (Defense): Jimmy Lake, Washington
Washington’s defense stuffed Washington State’s high-powered offense in Friday’s 28-15 victory. The Huskies held the Cougars to just 237 total yards (4.0 per play) and 15 points. Additionally, Lake’s group forced three turnovers and did not allow a player longer than 22 yards.
Team of the Week: Ohio State
The Buckeyes put together their best performance of the year in Saturday’s win over Michigan. The win over the Wolverines clinched a trip to the Big Ten Championship Game and puts Urban Meyer’s team in a position to play their way into the CFB Playoff. Ohio State has now won 14 of its last 15 games against Michigan.
Freshman of the Week (Offense): Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
Lawrence completed 27 of 36 throws for 393 yards and one touchdown and added 42 rushing yards in Clemson’s win over South Carolina.
Freshman of the Week (Defense): Jordan Davis, DL, Georgia
Davis collected three tackles (one for a loss) and one sack in Georgia’s win over Georgia Tech. The freshman also helped to limit the Yellow Jackets to 128 rushing yards.
