College Football Week 14 Awards

Offensive Player of the Week: DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama

Smith grabbed eight passes for 231 yards and three touchdowns in Alabama’s win over LSU.

Defensive Player of the Week: Micah McFadden, LB, Indiana

McFadden led the way for a strong Indiana defensive effort in the win over Wisconsin. He recorded nine tackles (two for a loss) and two sacks.

Team of the Week: Coastal Carolina

Credit to Coastal Carolina and BYU for working to schedule Saturday’s thrilling non-conference battle on short notice. The Chanticleers won on the strength of their ground game (281 yards), and a defense that came up with several key stops, including a last-second tackle at the one-yard line to hold onto the win. Coastal Carolina’s defense allowed only three points in the second half and managed to get consistent pressure against BYU quarterback Zach Wilson. The Chanticleers are now 10-0 and should push to finish in the top 10 if they can beat Louisiana in the Sun Belt title game on Dec. 19.

Coordinator of the Week (Offense): Kevin Wilson, Ohio State

With head coach Ryan Day out due to COVID-19, Wilson stepped into the play-caller role for Ohio State’s game at Michigan State. Wilson directed an attack that averaged 7.2 yards per play and scored touchdowns on four out of its first six drives. Justin Fields (199 yards) was solid through the air, and the ground attack gashed the Spartans for 322 yards.

Coordinator of the Week (Defense): Brian Smith, Rice

Defense led the way in Rice’s upset of Marshall. The Owls limited the Thundering Herd to just 245 yards (3.9 per play) and allowed just four third-down conversions on 12 attempts. Additionally, Smith’s group generated three sacks, four pass breakups and did not allow a play longer than 22 yards. Rice also forced five takeaways and took one interception for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to help seal the 20-0 win.

Freshman of the Week (Offense): Corey Rucker, WR, Arkansas State

Rucker caught nine passes for 310 yards and four touchdowns in Arkansas State’s win over ULM.

Freshman of the Week (Defense): Will Anderson Jr., LB, Alabama

Anderson recorded eight tackles (two for a loss) and two sacks in Alabama’s win over LSU.
