College Football Week 6 Awards

Offensive Player of the Week: Jett Duffey, QB, Texas Tech

Duffey threw for 424 yards and four scores and added a rushing touchdown in Texas Tech’s 45-35 victory over Oklahoma State.

Defensive Player of the Week: Kwity Paye, DL, Michigan

Paye recorded four tackles (2.5 for a loss), 2.5 sacks and two quarterback hurries in Michigan’s 10-3 win over Iowa.

Coordinator of the Week (Offense): Will Hall, Tulane

Tulane scored 42 points and recorded 525 total yards against an Army defense that entered Saturday giving up only 16.3 points a contest and just 4.8 yards a play. Under Hall’s direction, the Green Wave recorded 324 rushing yards against the Black Knights, converted 7 of 12 third-down attempts and scored on all four trips in the red zone.

Coordinator of the Week (Defense): Todd Grantham, Florida

Defense led the way for Florida in Saturday’s victory over Auburn. The Gators limited the Tigers to just 269 yards (4.4 yards a play), forced four turnovers and allowed Gus Malzahn’s offense to convert just two of 14 third-down attempts. Florida’s defense won the battle up front by limiting Auburn to just 124 rushing yards, with the pass rush chipping in two sacks and three tackles for a loss.

Team of the Week: Florida

The Gators improved to 6-0 behind a strong defensive effort in Saturday’s 24-13 win over Auburn. Florida’s defense limited the Tigers to just 269 yards (4.4 yards a play), forced four turnovers and allowed only one drive to reach the red zone. The Gators didn’t post huge numbers on offense, but this unit made enough timely plays to secure the victory, including a 64-yard touchdown pass and an 88-yard scamper by running back Lamical Perine.

Freshman of the Week (Offense): Sam Howell, QB, North Carolina

Howell connected on 33 of 51 passes for 376 yards and four touchdowns in North Carolina’s 38-22 win over Georgia Tech.

Freshman of the Week (Defense): Ahmad Gardner, CB, Cincinnati

In addition to recording four tackles and a pass breakup, Gardner returned an interception for a touchdown in Cincinnati’s upset victory over UCF.
