With the seventh weekend of the 2018 season in the books, it’s time to take a look at the best of the best and honor some of the top performances. Each week, Athlon Sports will highlight some of the top performers in college football with its weekly awards section. Here’s a look at Athlon Sports’ picks for the offensive, defensive, coordinator, team and freshman from Week 7:

College Football Week 7 Awards

Offensive Player of the Week: Jarrett Guarantano, QB, Tennessee

Guarantano completed 21 of 32 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns in Tennessee’s upset win over Auburn.

Defensive Player of the Week:  Juan Thornhill, DB, Virginia

Thornhill recorded six tackles and interception two passes (with 86 return yards) in Saturday’s win over Miami.

Coordinator of the Week (Offense): Steve Ensminger, LSU

LSU’s offense recorded 475 total yards and 36 points against a Georgia defense that entered Week 7 giving up only 13 points a contest. Ensminger’s group recorded 200 yards through the air and 275 on the ground, scored on all eight trips in the red zone and went 6 of 19 on third-down attempts.

Coordinator of the Week (Defense): Jon Heacock, Iowa State

Iowa State’s defense completely dominated West Virginia’s high-powered offense on Saturday night. The Cyclones limited the Mountaineers to just one offensive touchdown, 152 total yards (3.6 per play), recorded seven sacks and nine tackles for a loss. This unit also forced one turnover and did not allow a play longer than 30 yards.

Team of the Week: Michigan

The Wolverines delivered a statement victory on Saturday night, as coach Jim Harbaugh’s team defeated Wisconsin 38-13. Michigan’s offense recorded 444 total yards (6.4 per play), with 320 yards coming on the ground. The Wolverines held the Badgers to just 283 total yards and allowed just seven completions.

Freshman of the Week (Offense): CJ Verdell, RB, Oregon

Verdell rushed for 111 yards and two touchdowns on 29 carries in Oregon’s 30-27 win over Washington. Verdell’s second score – a six-yard run – clinched the victory in overtime for the Ducks.

Freshman of the Week (Defense): Chris Rumph, LB, Duke

Rumph recorded seven tackles (four for a loss) and a sack in Duke’s win over Georgia Tech.
