College Football Week 8 Awards

Offensive Player of the Week: Gardner Minshew, QB, Washington State

Minshew led the way for Washington State’s win over Oregon. The senior completed 39 of 51 passes for 323 yards and four touchdowns, with his final score coming with less than four minutes to go to secure the victory.

Defensive Player of the Week: Grant Delpit, S, LSU

Delpit recorded 10 tackles (one for a loss), one sack and two interceptions in LSU’s 19-3 win over Mississippi State

Coordinator of the Week (Offense): Troy Taylor, Utah

Taylor called another outstanding game for the Utes in Saturday’s win over USC. Utah’s offense recorded 541 yards (6.7 per play), controlled time of possession 34:48 to 25:12 and went five-for-five in red zone trips against the Trojans. Quarterback Tyler Huntley tossed four scores, while the ground game recorded 200 yards on 51 attempts.

Coordinator of the Week (Defense): Don Brown, Michigan

Total domination is the best way to describe Michigan’s defensive effort against Michigan State. The Wolverines limited the Spartans to only 94 yards on 51 plays (1.8 per play) and did not allow a third-down conversion (0-for-12). No Michigan State drive went longer than 48 yards, and the Wolverines recorded seven tackles for a loss and two sacks.

Team of the Week: Purdue

The Boilermakers earned the biggest win of Jeff Brohm’s tenure by beating Ohio State 49-20 on Saturday night. Purdue’s offense gashed the Buckeyes for 539 yards and scored touchdowns on five of their last seven possessions to clinch the victory. The Boilermakers allowed the Buckeyes to move the ball but held firm in the red zone. Coordinator Nick Holt’s defense held Ohio State to two field goals on five trips inside of the red zone.

Freshman of the Week (Offense): Rondale Moore, WR, Purdue

Moore caught 12 passes for 170 yards and two touchdowns, recorded 58 return yards and added 24 rushing yards in Purdue’s upset win over Ohio State.
