Fans awaiting the highly-anticipated return of the NCAA Football video game series will have to hold out a little longer.

Though initially rumored to return late in 2023, EA Sports has told an ESPN insider Tuesday that the newest edition of the game will release in the summer of 2024.

That year's addition to the franchise will be the first since NCAA Football 2014.

"EA Sports' college football video game series will return in the summer of 2024, EA Sports' VP and GM told @mikerothstein," ESPN tweeted Tuesday.

According to an article centered around the release announcement, Daryl Holt, EA Sports' vice president and general manager, told ESPN that the release timing is due to "the enormous undertaking of creating the game from scratch."

Earlier release dates have been rumored since the studio announced the return of the franchise back in February of 2021. Back then, the landscape around NIL was cloudy and EA Sports noted this as a challenge when planning the return of the newest college football game.

"If you look back on where we were talking in 2021, that road was blocked," Holt said when referring to adding real players in game. "I think I even said something to the fact that we were passengers on this journey, just like anyone else."

Now that NIL has become more mainstream and organized, EA Sports is reportedly taking their time to figure out the best way to capitalize.

"Well, the road's open now, but it's still under construction," Holt said of the clearer NIL picture in 2022 compared to last year.

On top of their plan to use real players in next year's game, the studio has also secured the rights to all 10 FBS conferences and the College Football Playoff.

Returning will be the popular dynasty mode, which will now include a more detailed transfer portal. In addition, the famed "Road to Glory" mode will return as well, where users can create a player to evolve through the collegiate ranks.

"I think people are going to be excited when the game comes out," Holt said.

If any indication for next year, NCAA Football 14 debuted on July 9th, 2013. Fans can likely expect the franchise's next installment to release around that date and before Madden makes its yearly release in August.
