Just two years after winning the national championship, LSU parted ways with head coach Ed Orgeron at the end of the 2021-22 season. It was a controversial decision. However, Coach O didn't have too hard of a time walking away.
Orgeron appeared at the Little Rock Touchdown Club for an interview this Tuesday afternoon. During his appearance, he was asked about how he responded when LSU told him the program was heading in a different direction. Let's just say his buyout price made him one happy man.
Orgeron revealed he was more than happy to walk away when LSU told him it's giving him his $17.1 million buyout price.
"They said, 'Coach, you've got $17.1 million on your contract. We're gonna give it to you.' I said, 'What time do you want me to leave and what door do you want me out of, brother?,'" he said.
Ed Orgeron, of course, didn't really want to leave LSU. He loves his players and Baton Rouge. But $17.1 million in your pocket for getting fired is the best consolation prize someone can get.
LSU is now led by former Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly. Kelly lost his LSU debut on Sunday night in heartbreaking fashion vs. the Seminoles of Florida State.
