ESPN has created an unexpected stir even before the college football season has started.
The worldwide leader in sports pulled a play-by-play announcer by the name of Robert Lee from a University of Virginia game, due to the similarities between his name and Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Due to the events in Charlottesville recently, ESPN put out a statement that both parties agreed a switch would be best for all parties involved.
Lee, who is Asian-American, hasn't spoken publicly about the issue but many in the ESPN family are trying to clear up the matter. An executive at the company said it wasn't until someone leaked the news that this became a bigger issue than they intended.
Ironically, by pulling Lee off the game it has only drawn more attention to it.
