Father of UNLV Quarterback Speaks Out Amid NIL Controversy
After announcing late on Tuesday night that he would be redshirting for the remainder of the season, UNLV Rebels quarterback Matthew Sluka has been one of the most popular names in college football.
That's because he claims he didn't receive what was promised to him in an NIL deal from UNLV, creating a swirl of drama.
Despite his claim, UNLV released a statement saying that Sluka's agent, "made financial demands on the University" that UNLV considered unlawful and against NCAA rules.
Amidst this controversy, Sluka's father spoke to ESPN on the situation and told the outlet, via Adam Rittenberg, that they "have no idea what the hell happened."
Sluka's father also said that they "never received payments despite requests and never asked for any adjustments to the original deal."
Hopefully the situation gets resolved sooner rather than later. In the bigger picture, the answer would appear to be more stringent and well-defined rules about NIL deals and how they can be made.
If Sluka or his representative is caught in a lie in all this, there could be dire consequences, and the incident could eventually lead to rule changes in the NIL world.
