The North Carolina State football team is enjoying a banner season. But the Wolfpack made headlines Friday for a strange and scary reason.

Former NC State football player Joseph Boletepeli was arrested this week and charged with misdemeanor stalking and communicating threats to Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren, according to a report by David Hale of ESPN.

Boletepeli played defensive line for NC State in 2018 and 2019. He made 13 total tackles during those two seasons. He then transferred to Maryland and made eight tackles in 2020.

Boletepeli reportedly tweeted "Imma get him I promise. Dave Doeren and the rest." Investigators say Boletepeli was also seen near Doeren's place of work and had sent text messages threatening Doeren and other members of his coaching staff.

The charges filed against Boletepeli claim that his behavior "would cause a reasonable person to suffer substantial emotional distress by placing that person in fear of death, bodily injury ... or the safety of the person's immediate family."

No reason has been reported for Boletepeli's hostility toward Doeren.

Boletepeli was also charged with resisting arrest. He was released from custody Friday with an ankle monitoring system, per WRAL.

Thankfully, nothing seems to have come of Boletepeli's threats against Doeren. Hopefully the situation has been resolved.

The 10th-year head coach will look to lead the Wolfpack to a bounce back when they face Louisville on Saturday after falling to Boston College last week.
