Former Texas QB Linked as Possible Cam Ward Replacement
There are plenty of big names in the college football transfer portal so far. The quarterback position has a ton of talent, ranging from Miller Moss to Jackson Arnold and even former Tulane signal-caller Darian Mensah.
On Monday night, former Texas quarterback Maalik Murphy, who spent this past year at Duke, announced his decision to enter the portal again.
Murphy was the backup to Quinn Ewers at Texas in 2023 and even started two games that season before entering the portal.
In his lone season at Duke, Murphy set a school record with 26 touchdown passes and threw for 2,933 yards while leading Duke to a 9-3 record.
On Tuesday, rumors began to circulate about Murphy's potential next landing spot. Pete Nakos of On3 mentioned Auburn and Miami (FL) as schools to watch in the pursuit of Murphy.
Auburn has been linked to several quarterbacks, including Arnold and Stanford transfer Ashton Daniels.
Miami, on the other hand, is set to lose Cam Ward to the NFL draft. Ward transferred from Washington State and dazzled in his one season with the Hurricanes, even becoming a Heisman Trophy finalist in the process.
So, finding a capable replacement for Ward is a top priority for the program.
Murphy is ranked as the No. 2 QB in the portal, per 247Sports, so Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes adding Murphy would be a big move after they just missed out on a berth in the 12-team College Football Playoff.
