College Football Group of 5 Coaches Poll: Week 1
Athlon Sports and FootballScoop are proud to present the Group of 5 Coaches Poll.
This poll recognizes the accomplishments of the top FBS programs that fall outside of the Power 4 leagues. For the first time, a member of one of the Group of 5 conferences will receive an automatic bid to this year’s 12-team College Football Playoff, with a chance to compete for a national championship. The bid will go to the highest ranked conference champion from the G5 ranks.
Every head coach in the American, Conference USA, MAC, Mountain West and Sun Belt will have the opportunity to rank the top schools among these leagues each week. Voting will remain anonymous during the season.
“Speaking with coaches this past week I consistently heard how good the football being played is within these conferences,” said FootballScoop president Scott Roussel. “There is great support from the coaches in bringing this recognition to these programs and players. We are happy to help shine a bright light on the depth of talent in these conferences.”

“The football being played in these conferences is outstanding and I believe this recognition for these teams, players and coaches is great for the game,” former UAB and Jacksonville State coach Bill Clark told FootballScoop ahead of the poll’s release.
