Joel Klatt Explains Why Alabama Could Be On Upset Alert This Saturday

Joel Klatt

In a matchup between two of the top teams in the SEC West, the LSU Tigers will host the Alabama Crimson Tide this Saturday in Death Valley.

While Alabama currently sits at No.6 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, one prominent analyst thinks 10th-ranked LSU will give the Crimson Tide all they can handle this weekend.

Speaking on Fox Sports' Breaking the Huddle Thursday afternoon, Joel Klatt pointed out that this Alabama team seems to struggle on the road, citing their 52-49 loss to Tennessee and narrow one-point victory against Texas earlier in the season.

"This team struggles when they leave Tuscaloosa," Klatt said Thursday on Breaking the Huddle.

Klatt made the following comments about the Alabama and LSU matchup this weekend:

"The location of this game really matters and, in particular, for Alabama. This is not an Alabama team that is dominant on the road, and they haven't been, really, for two years. When you look at this 'Bama team, what you see is a defense that is really good, particularly at rushing the quarterback... But when they're on the road, it's different. Bama's defense on the road gives up 32 points per game, at home they give up 7 points per game."

Further, Klatt mentioned that Alabama's struggles away from home aren't just limited to this season:

"We've seen them struggle on the road now for a couple of years. Think about this year, they lost to Tennessee on the road. They only won by a point at Texas in a game they probably should have lost. They went, last year, to four overtimes against Auburn [on the road], they lost to [Texas] A&M, they only had a two-point win against Florida... This team struggles when they leave Tuscaloosa and it's not a neutral site"

Alabama's one "trump card," according to Klatt, is their quarterback.

"They've [Alabama] got the best player in this game, and his name is Bryce Young," said Klatt.

The Crimson Tide will look to resolve their road struggles when they take on the LSU Tigers Saturday at 7:00 PM EST.
