The SEC world received alarming news this Monday morning. Mississippi State athletic director John Cohen has informed the university of his resignation.
This was an expected departure from Cohen. He will soon be named the athletic director at Auburn University.
However, it was previously unclear when Cohen would announce his official departure. Today's the day.
Auburn will likely name Cohen its athletic director this Monday.
"John Cohen has informed Mississippi State officials of his resignation from the school, sources tell @SINow. The expectations is he will be named the Auburn AD as soon as today in a deal that was being finalized over the weekend," said Ross Dellenger.
The first and biggest task of John Cohen's responsibility at Auburn is figuring out what to do with Bryan Harsin. It's fairly clear he's not the answer anymore.
"Awaiting Cohen in Auburn is a football coaching decision around Bryan Harsin, who in his second year is 9-12. The Tigers have lost four straight games. Many expect a coaching change. While at State, Cohen hired two football coaches: Joe Moorhead and Mike Leach," Dellenger adds.
Can John Cohen turn things around within the Auburn football program? That will ultimately define his legacy with the Tigers.
