JT Daniels: 15 Potential Transfer Destinations for the Former Georgia QB

JT Daniels, Georgia Bulldogs Football

Georgia quarterback JT Daniels entered college football's transfer portal on Wednesday. The California native's decision to transfer adds another big free agent for college football's offseason quarterback carousel. Daniels emerged as USC’s starting quarterback as a freshman in 2018 and carried that role into '19. However, he suffered a season-ending knee injury in the opener against Fresno State. Daniels decided to transfer to Georgia in '20 but was limited to the final four games of the season after recovering from the knee injury the previous year. Although Daniels opened '21 as the starter and was projected among the top quarterbacks in college football, another injury early in the year prevented him from holding onto that role, as Stetson Bennett emerged as the team's No. 1 quarterback. In four seasons at the collegiate level, Daniels has passed for 4,840 yards and 32 touchdowns to just 16 picks.

Where could Daniels land as a transfer? Here are 15 teams to watch (in alphabetical order):

15 Potential Transfer Destinations for JT Daniels

California
Chase Garbers leaves big shoes to fill at quarterback for the Golden Bears in 2022. Purdue transfer Jack Plummer committed to coach Justin Wilcox, but Daniels would be an upgrade.

Colorado
The Buffaloes struggled mightily on offense last season, averaging only 18.8 points a game under coach Karl Dorrell. Transferring to Colorado would get Daniels closer to home, but the Buffaloes are probably a longshot.

Iowa State
Brock Purdy is off to the NFL, leaving Hunter Dekkers as the team's top contender to start in 2022. Could the Cyclones look to add experience to the quarterback room?

LSU
Myles Brennan’s decision to remove his name from the portal probably decreases LSU's need to add a quarterback. However, outside of Brennan, there's not much experience in the quarterback room. Garrett Nussmeier and Walker Howard are the future here.

North Carolina
Sam Howell is off to the NFL, leaving Drake Maye and Jacolby Criswell to battle to replace Sam Howell this offseason. Daniels would be an experienced (and very talented) addition to the competition in Chapel Hill.

Northwestern
The Wildcats brought in a couple of transfers (Hunter Johnson and Ryan Hilinski) at quarterback in recent years. And after a year of uneven quarterback play, Northwestern should be looking for help under center in '22.

Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish reportedly had some interest in adding Kedon Slovis through the portal earlier this offseason. Could Daniels be an option to compete with Tyler Buchner?

Oklahoma
The Sooners already added Dillon Gabriel to replace Caleb Williams and Spencer Rattler next year. Could new coach Brent Venables look to add another option?

Ole Miss
The Rebels are active in the transfer portal to find a quarterback to replace Matt Corral in 2022.

San Diego State
Daniels is from Irvine, California, which isn’t far from San Diego State (less than a two-hour drive). The Aztecs also have a need for a quarterback to push Will Haskell after Lucas Johnson transferred to FCS Montana.

UCLA
Could Daniels transfer back home to play for Chip Kelly? Dorian Thompson-Robinson has already announced his return for 2022, however.

USC
It’s a long shot, but could Daniels return to USC to play under Lincoln Riley?

Virginia Tech
The Hokies have already added Grant Wells (Marshall) and Jason Brown (South Carolina). Can new coach Brent Pry find a way to take one more transfer?

West Virginia
With Jarret Doege transferring, the Mountaineers have an opening at quarterback. Garrett Greene and incoming freshman Nicco Marchiol are the front-runners to replace Doege in 2022.

Wisconsin
Could the Badgers look to add competition for Graham Mertz?
