Not everyone is sold on Alabama being one of the four best teams.
The College Football Playoff Selection Committee shocked some, but not all, of the college football world by choosing Alabama over Ohio State for the fourth spot.
One of the people who didn't really appreciate the selection was former ESPN-er, Danny Kanell. He tweeted that the decision to include Alabama was basically for the rankings.
So your 2017 Made For TV Ratings Invitational will be:— Danny Kanell (@dannykanell) December 3, 2017
1. Clemson vs 4. Bama
2. Oklahoma vs 3. Georgia
Kirk Herbstreit caught wind of the comment and had to respond to his former colleague. You can tell by the amount of exclamation points and question marks used that this subject brought up a lot of emotion for Herbstreit.
Dude..what has happened to you?? Seriously. You’re a good guy—and I get the whole “anti SEC guy” you’ve created, but you think ESPN wouldn’t LOVE to have Ohio St in this??? They’re a RATINGS BONANZA!! Cmon dude!! You’re better than that!!! https://t.co/646E9Xbwq6— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) December 4, 2017
Sorry @KirkHerbstreit -- I just needed to find any term other than PLAYOFF. Because to call it that is disingenuous. So I'll go with the Bluebloods of College Football Invitational!! https://t.co/dLfkB6xGRd— Danny Kanell (@dannykanell) December 4, 2017
The debate over Ohio State and having an eight-team playoff at some point probably won't end any time soon, especially if Alabama ends up losing to Clemson in the Sugar Bowl.
