In the days following Auburn's decision to fire Bryan Harsin, rumors have circulated on who will be the next head football coach for the Tigers.
Speaking in a press conference Wednesday, University of Mississippi head coach Lane Kiffin was asked about Jackson State's Deion Sanders as a possibility for the Auburn job, to which Kiffin said, "I think he’d do great."
"I think he’d do great. I think that’s a great name, and they should hire him. Great recruiter. Great name," Kiffin said Wednesday, according to Blake Toppmeyer.
Kiffin continued by saying Sanders could drastically improve Auburn's roster by utilizing the transfer portal, noting that "recruiting has always been important, but now we have the portal. You can change a roster faster than you ever could before, and you could lose a roster faster than you ever could before."
Sanders has a 23-5 record as head coach at Jackson State. Further, under Sanders, the Tigers are a perfect 8-0 this season.
With such a great start to his coaching career combined with Jackson's professional and college football background, it should be no surprise that teams are looking into the Hall of Fame former NFL cornerback for open head coaching spots.
Kiffin's Rebels have a bye this week, while Sanders and Jackson State prepare for a road matchup with Texas Southern.
