Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers held their first scrimmage of fall camp today. Unfortunately, the offense wasn't exactly at full strength.
LSU football is conducting a quarterback competition right now. The contenders are Myles Brennan, Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier. Brennan and Daniels may have a leg up on Nussmeier.
Nussmeier was held out of the team's first official scrimmage on Thursday because of a minor injury. The youngster suffered a minor ankle injury earlier in the week. Although the injury isn't serious, Kelly held the starting quarterback contender out of the first scrimmage. It could be a setback in his attempt to win the starting gig.
"First #LSU scrimmage today. Don't expect to see LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, as sources tell @TheAthletic he suffered a minor ankle injury this week. Injury not as bad as feared and could be back this week. Nussmeier is firmly in the mix for the starting QB job," said Brody Miller.
Miller added, "As reported earlier, Garrett Nussmeier was in pads and did some drills that required no movement but was primarily limited. Should be back soon. #LSU"
Let's hope Nussmeier gets back to 100 percent soon. These next couple of weeks will determine who starts at quarterback for the Tigers this fall.
