The quarterback is easily the most important on-field position for any college football team. Signal-callers can truly make their teammates better and enhance their play on the field. While quarterback - especially proven ones - are valuable, this position is not easy to evaluate and the overall performance can depend on some of the help from the supporting cast. These pocket passers and dual-threats are some of the best in the nation and these clashes should make it an enjoyable season in the MAC. Here are the top 10 quarterback matchups involving MAC teams for 2016:
MAC's Best QB Matchups of 2016
1. Cooper Rush (CMU) vs. Mason Rudolph (OKST) 9/10
Rush and the Chippewas head down to Stillwater to take on the toughest team they will face all year. Expect Central Michigan to keep it close.
2. Zach Terrell (WMU) vs. Cooper Rush (CMU) 10/1
The top quarterbacks in the conference square off in a pivotal matchup that will help determine the MAC West Division winner.
3. Zach Terrell (WMU) vs. Wes Lunt (ILL) 9/17
Terrell tossed 3,526 yards and 29 scores last fall, while Lunt threw for 2,761 yards and 14 touchdowns. It has the makings to be a shootout in Champaign.
4. Drew Hare (NIU) vs. Quinton Flowers (USF) 9/10
This matchup features two signal-callers who can beat you with their legs and their arms. Hare and Flowers will put up impressive numbers in this interesting matchup of two of the top Group of 5 programs. This game should also provide plenty of insight into Hare's recovery from an Achilles injury suffered late in the 2015 season.
5. Thomas Woodson (AKRON) vs. Taylor Lamb (APP) 9/24
One of the best MAC versus Sun Belt clashes of 2016, Woodson looks to close out non-conference play on a high note in Boone.
6. Drew Hare (NIU) vs. Zach Terrell (WMU) 10/8
Terrell looks to get some revenge from a 19-27 loss last year where he threw an interception and got sacked four times. This game could determine which team wins the MAC West in 2016.
7. Cooper Rush (CMU) vs. Drew Hare (NIU) 10/15
Some of the finest gunslingers in the MAC, Rush and Hare will both push for all-conference honors and look to repeat leading their teams to a bowl game.
8. Zach Terrell (WMU) vs. Kevin Ellison (GASOUTH) 9/24
Georgia Southern handled Western Michigan 43-17 last season, but the matchup shifts to Kalamazoo in 2016. Ellison is a dynamic runner and will be spelled by Favian Upshaw. Terrell will test an inexperienced Georgia Southern secondary.
9. Tanner Mangum (BYU) vs. Logan Woodside (TOL) 9/30
The Rockets close out the first month of the season with a Friday night matchup at BYU. Will the Cougars turn to Mangum or Taysom Hill in this one? Woodside returns to the No. 1 role after going 8-2 as Toledo's starter in 2014.
10. Riley Neal (BALL) vs. Cooper Rush (CMU) 10/8
Neal is a rising sophomore and showed promise during his freshman campaign, but expect Rush to show him how it's done in Mount Pleasant.
