Mario Cristobal, Miami Land Commitment From 5-Star Cornerback

The Miami Hurricanes are not having a great year on the field in head coach Mario Cristobal's first season.

But the future is looking a lot brighter as of Thursday.

The Hurricanes landed a commitment from five-star cornerback Cormani McClain. McClain chose Miami over Florida and Alabama.

Rated the No. 2 overall prospect in the country by On3, No. 3 by Rivals and No. 4 by 247Sports, McClain is the highest-rated cornerback to commit to Miami in the history of recruiting rankings, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.

McClain started his high school career as a wide receiver before switching to the defensive side of the ball and finding a home. He grabbed nine interceptions as a sophomore at Lakeland high school and 10 as a junior.

He becomes the second five-star recruit and sixth top-100 prospect in the 2023 class to commit to Cristobal and the Hurricanes.

Five of the six hail from Florida, illustrating why Cristobal chose to leave Oregon for Miami during the offseason.

The Hurricanes dropped to 3-4 on the 2022 season after a 45-21 loss to Duke on Saturday. But if Cristobal keeps recruiting like this, the team's struggles in his debut season will likely be forgotten quickly.
