Mark Stoops Fires Back At John Calipari For Calling Kentucky A 'Basketball School'

Mark Stoops, Kentucky Wildcats Football

Kentucky's a basketball school, right? Not on Mark Stoops' watch. In fact, he's willing to call out John Calipari over it.

This week, Calipari called Kentucky a "basketball school." He proceeded to call Alabama and Georgia "football schools."

"This is a basketball school. Alabama is a football school. So is Georgia. No disrespect to our football team. I hope they win 10 games and go to bowls. But this is a basketball school," said Calipari.

Stoops appears to be furious over Calipari's comments.

"Basketball school? I thought we competed in the SEC? #4straightpostseasonwins," said Stoops.

Stoops didn't stop there, either. He retweeted a couple of posts supporting Kentucky football over basketball.

"He’s 100% right. Comments by Cal in my opinion were insulting," wrote Aaron Gershon.

"The football team has had more success than basketball the last 4-5 years. Not even close. He’s got a point…," said Alex Walker.

Stoops added, "#BBN begs to differ! Don’t disrespect our great fans like that."

We're sure Kentucky's athletic director is thrilled with two of his biggest head coaches going at it.
