Nebraska Football: 5 2023 NFL Draft Prospects to Watch for the Cornhuskers

Omar Manning, Nebraska Cornhuskers Football

A big year from No. 1 target Omar Manning could propel the Huskers' wide receiver up NFL draft boards

Nebraska is a program that will have a different look on the football field in 2022, and that should be a good thing. Years removed from a winning record, the upcoming season figures to be an important one for head coach Scott Frost. As Frost started putting the pieces together for the upcoming season, he was one to successfully tap into the transfer portal to get some much-needed bodies to fill out a roster that brings a fresh look to things in Lincoln.

If things go well, Nebraska could be back in the postseason bowl festivities with a winning record, and it may not be the craziest thing in the world to consider Nebraska a wild-card contender for the Big Ten West Division. But if the Huskers do enjoy that level of success, then it will likely result in a handful of players getting some increased attention from NFL draft scouts.

2023 NFL Draft Prospects to Watch: ACC I Big 12 I Big Ten I Pac-12 I SEC

Here are five players (in alphabetical order) from Nebraska's roster that should be watched closely for the 2023 NFL draft cycle, including some notable transfer additions.

Anthony Grant, RB

Grant has made a couple of stops already in his college career, and he is hoping to end things on a high note at Nebraska. The former Florida State running back still has two years of eligibility at his disposal, but a strong showing this fall could help lead to a possible departure for the NFL. The Georgia native had 71 rushing yards and a touchdown in the Nebraska spring game to offer a preview of what he can bring to this offense.

Anthony Hunter, OL

Another key transfer addition for Nebraska this offseason could be a prospect to watch for the 2023 NFL Draft. Hunter joined Nebraska after four seasons with Oklahoma State, where he gained some decent experience on the field playing for the eventual Big 12 runner-up. Nebraska could benefit from that experience as it reworks its offensive line, and a good year from Hunter could lead to a draft pick being used on him next spring.

Omar Manning, WR

Manning is now Nebraska’s top receiver returning for the 2022 season after Samori Toure and tight end Austin Allen left for the pros. Manning had 26 catches for 380 yards and a pair of touchdowns last season, and that production is expected to go up as he becomes the clear-cut top target for the Huskers.

Quinton Newsome, CB

Nebraska’s pass defense is led in the secondary by Newsome. Newsome played in every game for the Huskers in 2021 and turned in a career-high 57 tackles, placing him among the team leaders in that category. Newsome also broke up four passes and added a sack. A few turnovers wouldn't hurt his cause but he will be going up against some talented wide receivers around the Big Ten to show what he can do.

Kevin Williams Jr., OL

Keep a watchful eye on one of the newer faces with the Nebraska program this fall. Williams is joining the program as a graduate transfer from Northern Colorado, and he will likely be jumping right into a starting role on the offensive line after being one of the more sought-after FCS transfer linemen this offseason.
