Key Points

  • Nick Saban entertains on "College GameDay" after retiring from Alabama coaching in 2023.
  • Saban wore a crown, cape and scepter, surprising his daughter Kristen.
  • Alabama, now under Kalen DeBoer, rebounded after an early 2025 setback, ranked No. 4.

Nick Saban may not be the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide anymore, but he still keeps his kids entertained with his antics on “College GameDay.”

This week’s show was in Nashville, Tennessee, for the SEC showdown between the No. 10 Vanderbilt Commodores and No. 15 Missouri Tigers.

Saban is on the desk with Pat McAfee, Rece Davis, Desmond Howard and Kirk Herbstreit. Saban hilariously donned a crown with a cape and a scepter. Saban’s daughter, Kristen, took a picture of him and put it on her Instagram story.

The former head coach has been with “GameDay” since 2024. He retired from coaching earlier that year.

Kristen could not believe her eyes when she saw her dad.

“This was not on my bingo card this year, but alas, here we are,” Saban said.

It is not hard to see Saban’s impact on college football. He won six of his seven national titles with Alabama from 2007-2023. His only other national title was with the LSU Tigers in 2003.

He never missed a bowl game with the Crimson Tide and lost only seven postseason games.

After Saban retired, Alabama hired former Washington Huskies head coach Kalen DeBoer to take his place. DeBoer’s first season in Tuscaloosa did not live up to expectations, as the Crimson Tide finished 9-4 in 2024.

DeBoer did not get off to the hottest of starts in 2025, losing the season opener to the unranked Florida State Seminoles 31-17 as the No. 8 team in the country. However, he has rebounded very well since then, winning six games in a row, as Alabama came into Week 9 as the No. 4 team.

The Crimson Tide are in a solid position with four games left in the regular season. After Saturday’s game against the South Carolina Gamecocks, Alabama must play the No. 20 LSU Tigers, No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners, Eastern Illinois Panthers and Auburn Tigers to close out the regular season.
