Notable ESPN Writer Includes Pac-12 Team In CFP Top 4 This Week

Oregon Ducks

With every team in the Pac-12 already having lost at least one game, it would be easy to predict that the "Conference of Champions" will be left out of the College Football Playoff for the sixth season in a row.

But at least one college football reporter believes a Pac-12 team belongs among the top four.

Heather Dinich of ESPN included Oregon among her top four teams through Week Eight, behind Ohio State, Georgia and Tennessee.

"My top four this week: 1. Ohio State 2. Georgia 3. Tennessee 4 ... Quack." -- Heather Dinich

Oregon made an impressive statement on Saturday with its 45-30 win over previously unbeaten UCLA.

But the fact that Dinich placed the Ducks, who are currently ranked No. 8 in the AP Top 25, ahead of Clemson and Michigan, both of which are undefeated — not to mention perennial power Alabama, which lost at Tennessee on a last-second field goal — has elicited some outrage on social media.

Oregon's playoff resume is weighed down by a 49-3 loss to Georgia in Week One. While the Ducks' dominance since has made it easy to make the case that the game, the first at Oregon for both head coach Dan Lanning and quarterback Bo Nix, was an outlier, the selection committee is probably going to want to avoid putting Oregon back into the same four-team field as Georgia.

We'll get our first indication of how the committee views Oregon and the rest of the Pac-12 on Tuesday, when the first College Football Playoff rankings are released.
