Notre Dame Football: Fighting Irish Unveil Throwback Uniforms Honoring 1988 Championship Team

No. 15 Notre Dame will honor one of its best teams in program history when the Fighting Irish hosts the Boston College on Saturday for their final home game of the 2019 season.

Under Armour announced on Wednesday that Notre Dame will wear throwback uniforms that honor the 1988 Fighting Irish team that went undefeated and won a national title. This comes one week after Under Armour revealed throwback uniforms for Utah, California, and Temple.

Notre Dame's uniforms will use their traditional blue and gold coloring with mesh number detailing and throwback lettering on the shoulder patches. Players will have custom gloves that are inspired by crisscrossing paths on the campus quad.

If the Fighting Irish play like their 1988 squad over the next two weeks, they could have an outside shot at playing in a New Year's Six bowl. While Athlon Sports currently projects Memphis to play in the Cotton Bowl and Notre Dame to play in the Camping World Bowl, the Fighting Irish are the highest-ranked non-Power 5 team in the latest College Football Playoff ranking.
