Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire suffered a significant ankle injury during Saturday’s game against Virginia. Zaire was injured during the third quarter on a rush attempt for the Fighting Irish and was replaced by DeShone Kizer.
Prior to the injury, Zaire completed 7 of 18 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 87 yards and one score. The sophomore was carted to the locker room to examine the injury. Zaire’s injury is a huge loss for Notre Dame, as Kizer and true freshman backup Brandon Wimbush have little experience.
After the game, coach Brian Kelly indicated Zaire will miss the rest of the 2015 season with a fractured ankle.
Kizer is a redshirt freshman with just one career pass attempt entering Saturday’s game.
