Notre Dame was a much stiffer test than what Ohio State was expecting at The Shoe last Saturday night. But the Buckeyes were still able to take care of business, beating the Fighting Irish 21-10. It was a good challenge for OSU, which has its sights set on the College Football Playoff.
This Tuesday afternoon, Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud reflected on the game during a media session. Notre Dame definitely earned his respect.
Stroud is well aware season openers are never easy unless a team plays "total bums," as Stroud puts it. He went on to say Notre Dame didn't have any "bums" out there on Saturday night.
"C.J. Stroud on beating Notre Dame: 'It was amazing. Great win,' he said. 'The first game of the season is never really easy, I feel. Unless they're like total bums.' He said Notre Dame – a top-five team at the time – did not, in fact, have 'bums.'"
Notre Dame is bound to have a great first season with Marcus Freeman at the helm. But the Fighting Irish were no match for the Buckeyes of Ohio State.
OSU, meanwhile, has plenty to work on ahead of Week 2. The Buckeyes offense was out of sorts at times last Saturday. Stroud and Co. will no doubt look to improve overall chemistry.
Ohio State hosts Arkansas State this Saturday afternoon.
