We're starting to see top-10 teams getting upset seemingly every week during the 2019 college football season. That's just the way we like it. Nothing is guaranteed in college football, and every week we know there will be some outrageous results. We just never know when or where it will happen.
That's why we watch.
Week 10 presents us with plenty of those OUTRAGEOUS* opportunities, and a handful of contenders head into this weekend as heavy favorites. That's when the unthinkable occurs — right when you least expect it.
Outrageous College Football Predictions for Week 10
Kansas upsets Kansas State
The Wildcats pulled off one of the biggest stunners of the year last weekend when they took down the Oklahoma Sooners. Kansas State is a young team, and we're not sure where their minds are after all of the attention and emotion involved in that win. Can they refocus on an often overlooked in-state rival? I'm not so sure. I like Les Miles to have the Jayhawks ready to take advantage of whatever hangover is left from last weekend's upset. The Wildcats end up in two straight stunners.
USC beats Oregon by double digits
The Trojans are a different team at home. They are unbeaten in L.A., and already have a top-10 win under their belts. This will be USC's fifth opponent who has been ranked at kickoff. The Trojans enjoy playing spoiler, and they have the talent to do it — including what might be the best receiving corps in the Pac-12. Look for Oregon to be overmatched on both sides of the ball, and eliminated from College Football Playoff contention by the end of the night.
Georgia Southern upsets Appalachian State
The Mountaineers are feeling pretty good about themselves heading into this one, ranked in the top 20 in the AP Poll. Georgia Southern will not be intimidated. Instead, the Eagles will take the crowd and emotion out of this game on Halloween night with their elite rushing attack and control this one from start to finish.
Washington takes down Utah by double digits
Chris Petersen is a big-game coach, and this is certainly a big game for a Washington team that has struggled this season. Petersen has had Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham's number through their careers, and that doesn't change on Saturday. Look for an attacking defense to be the difference for Washington in a blowout win over a top-10 opponent.
Virginia Tech upsets Notre Dame in South Bend
Notre Dame has the talent to blow out the Hokies, but the Irish are still going to be reeling from the beatdown they suffered in Ann Arbor last weekend. Look for another slow start to doom Notre Dame, who has struggled to move the ball on the ground and find open receivers consistently all season. This is a classic case where one loss turns into two. After the game, the calls for Brian Kelly's job will grow louder.
*Remember, "outrageous" can be defined as “wildly exaggerated or improbable,” and “very bold, unusual, and startling.” These are "outrageous" predictions and should be treated as such.
