Outrageous College Football Predictions for Week 2

The 2020 college football season is in full swing, and that means it's time to make some outrageous predictions!

Full disclosure: I dropped the ball in Week 1 and did not make any predictions. But trust me, I would have had BYU hanging half a hundred on Navy!

In any event, the first weekly installment of college football OUTRAGEOUS* predictions is here! Brace yourselves for the craziness that' going to go down this weekend.

Outrageous College Football Predictions for Week 2 of the 2020 Season

Syracuse upsets North Carolina

The Tar Heels are the sexy pick of a lot of experts to do a lot of sexy things in 2020. I don't get it. On Saturday, North Carolina will host Dino Babers and the Syracuse Orange and the home team is a three-touchdown favorite.

That's insane.

Babers has turned the Orange into a tough out every week. He'll have a veteran quarterback with a veteran offensive line leading the way into Chapel Hill. Expect Mack Brown to be thoroughly out-coached, and North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell's Heisman campaign to be over by Saturday night.

Spencer Rattler tosses 7 touchdown passes

We've been hearing how good this Oklahoma quarterback is supposed to be for a couple of years now. There's no way Lincoln Riley doesn't allow his young signal-caller to live up to the massive hype that the Sooner fan base has created. Few teams run up the score like the Sooners, and you'll see that again on Saturday when Rattler and his squad put up video game-like numbers against (*checks notes*) Missouri State.

Army scores another 40 points and posts another shutout

What we saw from the Black Knights last weekend was no fluke. That was one of the best coaches in the country taking advantage of a roster full of the most headstrong kids in the country during unprecedented times, and maximizing their potential. Keep an eye on Army this year. Things are going to get interesting up in the Hudson Valley and the Knights should have little trouble dispatching of ULM on Saturday.

Wake Forest sacks Trevor Lawrence 5 times

The Clemson-Wake Forest game isn't supposed to be close, and the final score probably won't be. That's doesn't mean things won't get dicey early on, when Wake Forest unleashes one of the most talented and experienced front sevens in the ACC against a Clemson offensive line that returns one starter. Clemson fans — and some fans of certain NFL teams — may want to look away during the early portion of this one.

Charlotte upsets Appalachian State

The 49ers won their last five regular-season games in 2019 and return 13 starters — including quarterback Chris Reynolds — who accounted for 28 scores last season. Appalachian State has high hopes again in 2020, but only returns four starters on defense and is going through a coaching staff change. If the game were later in the season, I wouldn't give it a second look. Because it's the opener for both teams, I give the nod to the coach-quarterback combo that has a full season together under the belt.
