Outrageous College Football Predictions for Week 8

It's going to be tough to top the craziness of last week

Week 7 of the 2017 college football season was a lot of fun — depending on who you were rooting for. We saw four top 10 teams take losses, throwing quite the wrench in everything we thought we knew.

As Week 8 approaches, it's getting tougher to pick the potential outrageous outcomes. Parity seems to be en vogue around the country, so literally nothing surprises us at this point. Be that as it may, here are five more OUTRAGEOUS predictions for this weekend's action.

Outrageous College Football Predictions for Week 8

Syracuse does it again

Sure, there were some contributing factors that led to Syracuse's upset of Clemson last Friday night, but for the most part, what you see is what you get from the Orange. Dino Babers' team doesn't back down to any challenge, and with a quarterback as dangerous and dynamic as Eric Dungey, why would they? This week, look for Babers to outcoach Mark Richt as Syracuse hits on a couple of big plays early on and take the Miami Hurricanes out of their comfort zone. Two straight upsets for the Syracuse Orange!

Texas gets it done this week

The Longhorns are growing each week — both in experience and confidence. They had the Sooners on the ropes last weekend in Dallas and nearly pulled off the win. This game seems a bit forgotten in the shadows of some other matchups going on around the country, but I think it'll make headlines this weekend. Texas is back home for an early start. Look for the Longhorn defensive line to be in the Oklahoma State backfield all afternoon, terrorizing Mason Rudolph and throwing off the timing of the Cowboys' offense. I like Tom Herman's (above, right) bunch to keep this a much lower-scoring affair than Oklahoma State is accustomed to and pull out the win on the strength of their special teams.

Jonathan Taylor tops 200 yards again

This kid is on a roll. The freshman running back has ripped off three 200-yard games this season — including in each of the past two games. Look for Taylor to keep his streak alive against a Maryland team that is simply not equipped to compete with the Wisconsin offensive line in the trenches. I'm thinking close to 250 yards and a couple of touchdowns are on the docket for Taylor, who will continue to quietly climb the Heisman polls.

Wyoming beats Boise State on the blue turf

Ironically, this battle of high-profile, seasoned quarterbacks is going to be won on the defensive side of the ball. Wyoming has some talented guys in its secondary who are going to make it tough for Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien and his receivers to operate. Craig Bohl's Cowboys are two-touchdown underdogs, but I like them to control this game from start to finish.

Notre Dame beats Southern Cal by 20

The Trojans are flawed, and Notre Dame has been waiting for another chance to make a statement after its one-point loss to the darlings of 2017 — the Georgia Bulldogs. I like the Notre Dame defense to get after Sam Darnold and force him into making some tough decisions with the football. The stats don't lie — Darnold has not been great this year when it comes to taking care of the football. A couple of extra possessions is all the Irish will need in this one, as they lean on their running game to put a sound beatdown on their traditional rival from the West Coast.

*Remember, "outrageous" can be defined as “wildly exaggerated or improbable,” and “very bold, unusual, and startling.” These are "outrageous" predictions and should be treated as such.
