Pat McAfee's Nick Saban Accusation Leaves 'College GameDay' Crew in Disbelief
Pat McAfee is nothing if not entertaining.
And the banter he has with Nick Saban and the rest of the “College GameDay” crew has been receiving rave reviews this season.
The two had an amusing back-and-forth exchange on Saturday’s “CGD” when Saban brought up current Boise State offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Dirk Koetter — an assistant coach that Saban has long admired.
“Dirk Koetter is one of the offensive coordinators I always tried to hire at Alabama,” Saban said. “Could never get him.”
Without missing a beat, McAfee roasted the seven-time national champion coach live on air.
“That's because you were spending all your money on your players, Coach,” McAfee quipped.
Saban took the heckling in stride, stating “we had a low budget” in response to why he was never successful in adding Koetter to his staff.
Koetter has had several offensive coordinator jobs in college football but Alabama wasn’t one.
He had stops at UTEP (1986-88), Missouri (1989-93), Boston College (1994-95) and Oregon (1996-97) before making the jump to the NFL where he had OC jobs with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2007-11), Atlanta Falcons (2012-14) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2015).
