Earlier this week, the official AP Preseason Top 25 Poll released. Notre Dame, despite losing head coach Brian Kelly to LSU, checks in at No. 5. Paul Finebaum finds that absurd.
The longtime SEC Network analyst doesn't think the Fighting Irish belong in the top 10. He thinks they'll get blown out by Ohio State and could drop games vs. North Carolina, Clemson and USC.
At the end of the season, Notre Dame might not even be ranked in the top 15, per Finebaum.
“They should not even be in the top 10, Greeny,” Finebaum said during an appearance on ESPN's Get Up this Tuesday morning, via On3. “This is an absolute joke, and it happens every year with the AP poll, which is just as worthless as preseason NFL football. It’s ridiculous.
“Notre Dame is going to get run in the first game of the season. They’re going to get destroyed at [The Horseshoe] and then, after that, they have to go to North Carolina a couple weeks later … they have Clemson on the schedule and they have [USC]. They’ll be fortunate to go 9-3. Laughable that they’re in the top five or six.”
Notre Dame might not even be in the College Football Playoff picture after Week 1 if the Fighting Irish get blown out by Ohio State.
“I think we can eliminate Notre Dame today,” Paul Finebaum said. “We don’t have to wait until the first week of the CFP.”
The college football world will learn everything it needs to know about the Fighting Irish in Week 1.
