San Jose State Football Releases Statement On Death Of Freshman Player

Tragedy has struck San José State University this Friday.

Reports surfacing today indicate that freshman running back Camdan McWright was killed in an accident involving a school bus, police said. 

Following the news of the collision, SJSU released a statement this morning which included quotes from the school's President, head football coach, and director of athletics. 

"San José State is deeply saddened by the death of Camdan McWright would've turned 19 this December and was a freshman on the San José State football team," SJSU said this morning. "The university is working cooperatively with the San José Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, SJSU University Police Department, SJSU Student Affairs and SJSU Athletics in the aftermath of this tragic accident."

Additionally, the school has offered counseling services to any student who may need assistance in light of the tragic event. 

San José State was scheduled to travel to New Mexico State for a game Saturday, however, the school is reviewing what is in the best interest of their student athletes before making the decision to move forward with their matchup tomorrow.  

The accident remains under investigation.
