SEC Second-Half Predictions and Midseason Review

Athlon reviews the SEC and looks ahead to the second half of 2017.

The 2017 college football season has reached the halfway point in the SEC, and it’s time to hand out midseason awards and make a few predictions for the second half of the year. At the top of the league, Alabama and Georgia appear to be on a collision course for a matchup in the SEC title game. The Crimson Tide are rolling once again thanks to an elite defense, along with an offense that is averaging 42.7 points per game. The Bulldogs have showed marked improvement in coach Kirby Smart’s second season, as the ground attack and defense continue to lead the way, while freshman quarterback Jake Fromm seems to improve with every snap. As the second half of the year begins, it’s a mixed bag in the second tier of the SEC. Auburn appeared to be a top-10 team but stumbled at LSU. Ed Orgeron’s Tigers have won two in a row and will be a tough out in the second half of the season. Coaches remain on the hot seat at Texas A&M (Kevin Sumlin), Arkansas (Bret Bielema) and Tennessee (Butch Jones).

Editors Mitch Light and Steven Lassan and contributor Bryan Fischer offer their up their picks for midseason awards and second-half predictions in the SEC.
